Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also known as Virginia Tech was established in 1872 and started its journey as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. In 1944, the name officially changed to Virginia Polytechnic Institute. It has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has been academically affiliated with the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), The National Sea Grant College Program, Universities Research Association, and the Space Grant Colleges. In terms of Sporting Affiliations, Virginia tech has been affiliated with NCAA Division I FBS - ACC. QS World University Rankings has given Virginia Polytechnic Insitute and State University a global rank of #346, Times Higher Education Rankings has given Virginia Tech a global rank in the range of #251-300, and US News & World Report has given Virginia Tech a Global rank of #247.
Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses
The Campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The majority of the buildings on the campus are made with Limestone in a neo-Gothic style. Virginia Tech has 5 extended campuses throughout the state of Virginia namely Virginia Tech Hampton Roads Centre in Newport News and Virginia Beach, Northern Virginia Center in Falls Church, Virginia Tech Richmond Centre in Richmond, Virginia tech Roanoke Centre in Roanoke, and Virginia tech Southwest Centre in Abingdon. The University has a total of 9 schools throughout its campus offering more than 250 courses in a wide array of disciplines.
Accomplishments and Alumni
149 years since its establishment, Virginia Polytechnic Institution and state University has had a long road of history and accomplishments. It comes in the top 5% of universities in the USA for research expenditures and has a total of more than 37,000 students on and off-campus. Many notable alumni like John Asbury (CEO of Atlantic Union Bank), Jim Buckmaster (CEO of Craigslist), Gerry Beckley (founding member of the rock band America), and Sharyn McCrumb (author).

Among the 30,000 plus on-campus students, over 11.1% of the students are international from more than 100 countries. International students are welcomed on the campus of Virginia tech in which 57% of the population is male and 43% of it is female. Virginia Tech offers many career services to the students like helping them with their Resumes, Cover letters, and interviews. Virginia Tech hosts many on-campus fairs for employers to meet students. Companies like Amazon, Walmart, GEICO, Google, IBM, KPMG, CISCO, etc attend.
