History, Affiliations & Rankings
The University of Southern Denmark was established in the year 1998. In 1998, Odense University, the Southern Denmark School of Business and Engineering, and South Jutland University Center merged to form the University of Southern Denmark. The Odense University College of Engineering was integrated into the University of Southern Denmark on January 1, 2006, creating the Engineering Faculty. The University of Southern Denmark additionally included the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) and the Slagelse Business School Centre on January 1, 2007. The National Institute for Public Health (NIPH) will continue to operate as such and will remain in Copenhagen. The Business School Centre, which makes up SDU's campus in Slagelse, will be a division of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences. Since the previous Odense University was established in 1966, the university celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2006. The university has affiliations with European University Association.
The University ranks at the 353rd position according to the QS World University Rankings. Times Higher Education puts it in the range of 251-300. SDU is affiliated with the EUA and is currently educating over 29,000 students at various levels of education.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
The university campus is present in 6 cities, namely- Odense, Copenhagen, Slagelse, Esbjerg, Kolding and Sønderborg. As a national institution, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) comprises five faculties – Humanities, Science, Engineering, Social Sciences and Health Sciences totaling 32 departments, 11 research centres and a university library. Spread over 5 campuses, the University offers the best quality of education to its students and provides them with the infrastructure to grow. Moreover, the University of Southern Denmark offers various career programmes for international students, looking to pursue their careers in Denmark after the completion of their studies. Besides, the university also arranges career networking seminars, to help students in finding a student job or network with regional businesses. A separate Department is maintained for individual and confidential career counselling. The experts offer one-to-one career advice, and conduct conferences every week where students can discuss career development, and job opportunities and also get help with their CV and job interview.

The university collaborates with business firms to provide students with opportunities for conducting research and help them attain experience for future professional life. The overall objective of the University of Southern Denmark is to promote and boost continuous improvements and advancements in its education system. One of the first higher education institutions to acquire accreditation was SDU in 2014. This indicates that the Danish Accreditation Council determined that SDU's quality system can generally be relied upon to continuously improve the standard and applicability of their programmes.
The alumni network of the University of Southern Denmark is very extensive and alumni from here are spread all over the world. SDU Almnet helps students get in touch with former and fellow students as well. Mai Mercado (Danish Statesman), Mette Bock (Member of Danish Folketing), Anne Glad (Danish TV Personality), and Nils Usakovs( Mayor of Riga) are notable alumni of the university.
