University of Parma, officially known as Università degli Studi di Parma, or UNIPR in Italian, was established in 962 AD in Parma, Italy. Founded as the School for Notaries (potestatem elegendi sive ordinandi sibi notaris) by Otto I. It soon was shut down in the 13th century but it was opened as a world class educational institute by Niiccolo III in 1412. In 1545, Farnese Duke Ranuccio I founded and endowed the university College of Nobles with a distinguished faculties and financial aids but the university was again neglected in 18th century. The university of Parma was then invited Future Jesuit Father General Luigi Fortis to head the College of Nobles. The university of Parma faced a rapid growth phase in number of students and recognitions from the top universities in Italy and Europe. It then started establishing an astronomical observatory, a botanical garden and laboratories of anatomy, chemistry and experimental physics. The university was annexed by French, but it soon failed due to the fall of Bonaparte. Today, University of Parma doesn’t have a main campus, but the departments and administrative buildings are spread across the wonderful city of Parma, Italy. But the main administrative block of the PU is located at University Campus in Parco Area delle Scienze in Parma. The university campus has number of facilities and centres including University Chapel, CUS Parma-University Sports Centre (Sport Facilities; Gym; Golf Course, Bar-Canteen “Podere La Grande, Meeting / Congress Centre “S. Elisabetta”, IMEM – CNR Institute for Electronic Materials and Electro-magnetism, Swimming pool, Auditorium – Multipurpose building for teaching activities, University Language Centre. The other departments and libraries and dorms are located in the South and West of the Parma City. There are total 25,400 students enrolled in University of Parma, out of which, 4,000 students belong to the international students community and most of them have come through Erasmus+ programs. Not just this, there is a presence of academic staff of over 2,500 members. According to the QS and THE Ranking, University of Parma is ranked #801-900 and #601-700 in 2019.
