John Bryan Bowman founded the University of Kentucky (UK) as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1865. Previously, it was known as the Kentucky Agricultural and Mechanical College. It began providing Master's degrees in 1876 and was granted university status in 1916. It was the country's first research institute. The institution is also noted for being one of the largest in the state. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has granted the University of Kentucky accreditation to provide Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees. According to the QS World University Rankings 2022, this university ranks in the 651-700th range in the Best Global Universities category.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Its diverse program offerings enable students to succeed in multiple subjects while also fostering a collaborative atmosphere across all colleges, departments, and research activities. The University of Kentucky spends much on infrastructure, as seen by their recent $256 million investment in a multifunctional research facility. The University of Kentucky's campus has seven primary eating facilities, 23 housing halls, and a variety of recreation facilities split across three separate campuses: North campus, South campus, and Central campus, which also houses over 240 student-run organizations. Furthermore, the university comprises 16 colleges, including a Graduate school that collectively offer 93 Undergraduate programs, 99 Master's programs, 66 Doctorate programs, and four professional programs. Also, there are 15 libraries located around the campus.
Accomplishments and Alumni
University of Kentucky HealthCare announced a record $10 million contribution from the Central Bank to support increased patient care at the UK Markey Cancer Centre at the UK Board of Trustees Healthcare Committee meeting on Feb.17, 2022. It is regularly listed in many "top" or "best of" categories by national publications or organizations. The University has a national women’s team championship in cross country, eight individual championships in gymnastics, an Olympic medalist in track and field and 21 national championships in cheerleading, The University of Kentucky leads the way, with the Men's Basketball Team winning their eighth national title in 2012. In all, the institution has educated 3,58,102 students, including alumni from all around the world. Nobel laureates Dr Thomas Hunt Morgan and William Lipscomb, stars Miss Elizabeth and Ashley Judd, and Senator Mitch McConnell are among the notable graduates.

The university's goal of having a diversified foreign student body, with a stringent admissions procedure, is demonstrated by the fact that it has 1800 international students. Overall diversity at this college is above average, indicating that there is a wide range of racial/ethnic diversity, ages, gender, and location on campus. Women make up 56 percent of full-time undergraduates at the University of Kentucky, while males make up 44 percent.
