The University of Hong Kong is the oldest institution for tertiary education in Hong Kong. The Governor of Hong Kong set the foundation for the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1910. Finally, in 1912, HKU welcomed its first students with Arts, Engineering, and Medicine as its initial three faculties, offering a variety of programs. HKU is now recognized internationally for its outstanding contributions to education and research, and it is consistently listed among the world's best universities. HKU is academically affiliated with the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAHI), Universitas 21, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and other national and international academic bodies.
