Teaching is given in the form of lectures, seminars and exercises, as well as case studies.

Q: Does the university guarantee accommodation for exchange students (non degree seeking)?

No. Students will have the possibility to apply for a room in a student residence at the end of the online application, but there is no guarantee. It's your responsibility to find an accommodation that suits your expectations.

About the University

History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1580 by Peter Canisius on the foundation of the Jesuit College St. Michel. The cantonal library founded in 1839 has collaborated with the university and the Academy came to be known as the Faculty of Law. In 1939, the University of Fribourg moved to a new campus built on the cemetery of Misericorde, giving St. Michel one of Fribourg's gymnasia, which later took the name of College St. Michel. The University of Fribourg has affiliations with BeNeFri; Compostela Group of Universities. The University of Fribourg ranks #561-570 by the QS World University Rankings 2022 and #401–500th World University Rankings 2022 by the Times Higher Education.

Currently, the university offers 5 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £5,000 to international students domiciled in the following countries in South Asia: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Eligibility

Applicants must be applying for direct first year entry in 2022 and have, or be working towards A-levels (including international and Sri Lankan A-levels); IB Diploma and Indian Standard XII (CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat boards only).

How is the academic year divided?

The academic year is divided into two semesters, each of fourteen teaching weeks. An 8 week inter-semester break will separate them. During this period students take the opportunity to prepare seminar works, dissertations and exams.
