History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Bayreuth was founded as the seventh Bavarian state university by the Bavarian Parliament on January 1, 1972. The former parade field south of the Kreuzstein and Birken neighbourhoods was chosen as the location. The University of Bayreuth began teaching and studying in 1975, following the decision to establish it in 1972. Since then, the campus university, which today comprises seven faculties, has grown rapidly and established itself in the Bavarian, German, and international education and research landscapes. The German University Association (DHV) and the Santander Network are both affiliated with the university. The University of Bayreuth is ranked #521-530 in the QS World University Ranking 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The University of Bayreuth's campus is located on the outskirts of town, about 900 meters from the motorway interchange. The University's campus serves as both a hub and a source of inspiration. GreenCampus is the University of Bayreuth's organizational entity for sustainability. It serves as the hub for all of the University's sustainability-related activities, as well as a gathering place for stakeholders from the university and outside to put their plans into action. Individual initiatives, research and teaching projects, and sustainable campus management are all part of the campus experience. In Bayreuth, students can choose from over 40 different bachelor's degree programs and over 60 different master's programs

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The University of Bayreuth is the recipient of many world-renowned awards and honours in Teaching, Sustainability and Administration. Sabrina Maurus wins the City of Bayreuth Prize for her dissertation  "Battles over State Making on a Frontier. Dilemmas of Schooling, Young People and Agro-Pastoralism in Hamar, Southwest Ethiopia". Teachers and scientists are honoured with medals and accolades at the President's Dinner every year. The University has a strong network of alumni across 177 countries. Some of the notable names are Alice Weidel, Member of the Bundestag of Germany, Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth and Matthias Kohl, German mathematical statistician.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Currently, over 13,000 students are enrolled in one or more of the 160-degree programs provided by the seven faculties each semester. Academics appear to be at ease at the university, which is led by the interdisciplinarity philosophy. In fact, academic workers make up about two-thirds of their workforce, with over 200 professors among them. There were 2,417 new graduates of bachelor's,  master's,  teaching, and law degree programs in 2019. The Career Services team at the University of Bayreuth serves as a link between studies and professional life. It assists students from all fields in launching their careers, as well as providing alumni with contact information for their alma mater. Some of the top employers of university graduates are EY, Deloitte, PwC, Adidas and KPMG.
