Part-time job rules for international students in the UK :

• You cannot work more than 20 hours per week for a full-time degree programme, i.e. no more than 4 hours per day with weekends off.

• You cannot work more than 10 hours per week during a language course term.

• You can find work for 40 hours a week, which is 8 hours a day, with weekends off after the session is finished.

• Working as a freelancer or on a contract basis is not authorised.

• If you don't have a post-study work visa, you won't be able to work full-time for any business.

Types of Part-Time Jobs in the UK

There are two ways international students can get part-time jobs in the UK. They can either look for on-campus jobs or off-campus jobs.

On-Campus Jobs: On-campus jobs are available inside the university campus and, hence, are perfect for students as they can apply in different departments within their proximity.  

Off-Campus Jobs: Off-campus jobs are relatively easy but not always in proximity. These jobs include office boy, receptionist, waiter/ waitress, call centre maintenance, data entry, etc.

The Post Study Work Visa (PSWV) is a temporary visa that gives overseas students the chance to live, study, and work in any post or professional path once they finish their education. This UK Post Study Work Visa path is accessible to everyone, including Indian students in the UK with immigration status. In addition, all students studying in a UK Higher Education Provider-approved institution are eligible for the Graduate Route. Generally, it costs around £348 to apply for a UK student visa from outside the UK and around £475 to extend or switch to a Student visa from inside the UK. Here are the different costs for different types of student visas that an international student requires to study in the UK:

• Tier 4 (General) for 16 years or older: £348 (INR 35,267)

• Tier 4 (Dependant): £680 (INR 68,912) per month per person as a dependant

• Tier 4 (Child) for age 4-17: £348 (INR 35,267)

• Post Study Work Visa: £700 (INR 70,939) + the Immigration Health Surcharge at the full rate of £624 (INR 63,237) per year

Tier 2 Work Visa (for skilled workers): £1212  (INR 1.22 lakhs)

Step 3: Register and complete the visa application form.

Step 4: Pay your Immigration Health surcharge and application fees of £348 (INR 35,267).

Step 5: Attend your appointment at the nearest embassy or consulate.

Step 6: Get the result of your application. If your visa application has been granted, appear for the interview later on.
