Tokyo Metropolitan University is a research university established in 1949 under the old system of education. The university has 5 campuses: Minami-Osawa Campus (main campus), Arakawa Campus for Health Sciences, Hino Campus for System Design, Marunouchi Satellite Campus with Business School and Harumi Campus with Law School. There are a total of 7 faculties offering undergraduate courses in Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Economics and Business Administration, Science, Urban Environmental Sciences, System Design, Health Sciences and 5 graduate schools include Graduate School of Humanities, Graduate School of Law and Politics, Graduate School of Management, Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Urban Environmental Sciences, Graduate School of Systems Design and Graduate School of Human Health Sciences. Other major facilities within the TMU campuses are computer centre and information processing facilities, 5 libraries, international House, Makino Herbarium, Bangkok Office, Ogasawara Field Research Station and Science and Technology research facilities. The university has long-standing features of high level research skills of teaching staff and quality university education.
