Tianjin Medical University, one of the most prestigious medical university, was established in 1950 in Tianjin, China. Founded in 1950 as Tianjin Medical College, the university was the first medical institution approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China after the Civl War and establishment of People’s Republic of China. Under the leadership of Hsien-I Chu, a renowned endocrinologist, who was the first president of the college, the college has gained many recognition and accomplishments in a very short span of time. In 1981, the college was approved to grant degree programs. When the college saw exponential growth in number of students, in 1993, Tianjin Medical College and Tianjin Second Medical College were merged by State Education Council of PRC to form Tianjin Medical University. Today, Tianjin Medical University has many faculties and departments in Clinical Medicine, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, Nursing Care, Stomatology, Disease Prevention & Control, Pharmacology and Biomedical Engineering. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Traditional Chinese medicine and Western Medicine (Surgery), Endocrinology & Metabolic Disease, Oncology, Neurology, Medical Imaging, Urinary Surgery, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Medicine, General Surgery, Microbiology & Immunology, Ophthalmology and Stomatology. Not just this, Tianjin Medical University has over nine Research institutions and centers, one Key Laboratory and nine Clinical Pharmacology Center under Ministry of Health. All students studying in Tianjin Medical University are encouraged to carry out research studies in their interested areas under guidance after required approvals. Today, Tianjin Medical University has two campuses, Guangdonglu Campus and Qixiangtai Campus. The main campus, spread on 98-acre land, is located at 22 Qixiangtai Road in Tianjin, China. The campus provides the state-of-the-art facilities including cafeterias, library, labs and research centers, IT rooms and many more facilities. There are around 8,500 students enrolled in the university out of which 5,500 students are pursing undergraduate programs. The university also has over 6,000 professional academic staff members who are also pursuing their research. The funding for all research projects are received from the state department.
