The University of A coruña or UDC was established on July 20th 1989 under the Galician Universities Law 11/1989 and received its university status by the Constituent Assembly on February 4th, 1992. It is a Spanish public university with departments segregated into two campuses, namely, the primary A Coruña campus and the nearby Ferrol campus in northwestern Spain. The A Coruña campus is massive, covers three suburbs on the outskirts of the city and houses faculties of engineering, computer science, health sciences, law, sociology and science amongst others. The Ferrol campus is harbours the faculties of humanities, work sciences, nursery, polytechnic and industrial design. It also boasts of specialised centres on labour relations, nursing and tourism. UDC provides quality public service which is aimed at achieving high levels of welfare for the society by means of the pursuit of social, scientific and technological advances along with ethical values. It also holds classes on the cultural, social and linguistic identity of Galicia. Moreover, UDC has a thriving Arts community and fosters a creative campus atmosphere through exhibitions, workshops,and theatre and dance.
