History, Affiliations and Rankings
Southern Utah University in the city of Cedar City was founded in 1897 as a regular school and received official university status in 1991. Southern Utah University is a friendly campus community where students explore their interests and prepare for careers and meaningful life experiences. It offers world-class project-based learning opportunities where students gain work experience before entering the job market. President Benson ended his term at the university and was succeeded by Scott L. Wyatt in November 2013. Between 2013 and 2014, Wyatt ran an unprecedented funding campaign, culminating in the opening of the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Centre for the Arts in March 2014. He would also introduce a three-year undergraduate degree program in 2020. It is affiliated with NCAA Division I FCS - Western Athletic Conference. It is ranked at #67 in Regional Universities West, at #83 in Top Performers on Social Mobility and at #32 in Top Public Schools.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The university has 17 student rooms for recreation, leisure and study. On-campus student residences are located 1-10 minutes from all campus facilities. The other facilities available on campus are, Southern Utah University is close to more than 20 national parks and monuments, which is why the university is also known as the University of Parks. College students can attend the famous Utah Shakespeare Festival at the professional theatre organisation. Various events such as Paint the Town Red, Homecoming Week and small club activities take place each week. Southern Utah University programs offer more than 141 undergraduate, 21 graduate and certificate programs at seven academic universities in science, business, fine arts and more. Accomplishments and Alumni
Political Science teaches important communication and critical thinking skills, and SUU offers internships for state legislatures and members of Congress, as well as study abroad opportunities in countries such as Estonia, England and Hungary. The most famous student in the political science major is the Senate minority. Leader Harry Reid. Some of the notable alumni are Nick Miller (NFL wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders), DeWayne Lewis (NFL cornerback, Lewis was a 2 Time Conference Athlete of the Year), and Lonnie Mayne (Professional wrestler in the 1960s and 1970s).

A total of 12,582 students are enrolled at Southern Utah University. Southern Utah University has an enrollment of 8,041 full-time and 4,541 part-time students. This means that 63.9% of the students enrolled at Southern Utah University are enrolled full-time. Some of the visiting companies are AT&T, Ebay, New York Life Insurance.
