Southern Illinois University Edwardsville or SIUE is a public university that was established in 1957. It is located in Edwardsville, Illinois and is an extension of Southern Illinois Carbondale. The Daily Beast ranks SIUE 21st in the nation among its 2010 Top 50 Safest Colleges. SIUE offers graduate programs from eight colleges and schools, to students from across the globe. An interesting fact about SIUE is that it does not charge out-of-state tuition and fees and follows standard rates for all students from the USA. In addition to its academic programs, the university offers numerous extracurricular activities to its students like athletics, honour societies, student clubs and organizations. The fielding athletic teams of SIUE are popularly known as the SIUE Cougars. SIUE participates in a number of competitions like the National Collegiate Athletic Association at Division I as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. SIUE has been accredited with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
