Founded in the year 1900 in Suzhou, China, Soochow University is the of the most reputed educational institutes of the Asian nation and is modeled on the western-style of higher education. It came into existence after Po-Hsi, Kung-Hsiang, and Chung-Hsi academies were amalgamated. Tung-wu, which is the ancient Chinese name of the university, points to one of the three kingdoms in ancient times of which, Suzhou was an important part. In 1951, when the Republic of China’s government moved to Taiwan, the school of Law was established which later became the first private school of Taiwan. Soochow’s programs are based on the pursuit of highest teaching quality and learning excellence, with a full understanding of its values, resources, and character. Further, its traditionally held motto – unto a full-grown man – points to its commitment towards educating the youth, until they become full-grown men and women, ready to face the challenges of the world. After 60 years of existence, Soochow University has turned into one of the most prestigious, fully accredited university in the Chinese province. It houses 6 colleges, 23 departments through which it offers 22 masters and 6 doctoral programs to students. Some of the study areas taught at Soochow University include Law, Engineering, Medicine, Humanities, and others. While Its first campus at Waishuanghsi houses the schools of Science, Art & Social Sciences and Languages & Culture. The Downtown campus provides degree programs through the schools of Law, Business and Extension School. This campus is located next to the administrative and commercial center of Taipei. Apart from this, the School of Humanities, Textile and Clothing Engineering, Chemistry, Medicine and School of Engineering and Material Sciences of Soochow University have etched their name in providing quality education. The campus grounds are considered as one of the most beautiful in China, as it incorporates the classical gardens of Suzhou beautifully.
