Founded in the year 1900 in Suzhou, China, Soochow University is the of the most reputed educational institutes of the Asian nation and is modeled on the western-style of higher education. It came into existence after Po-Hsi, Kung-Hsiang, and Chung-Hsi academies were amalgamated. Tung-wu, which is the ancient Chinese name of the university, points to one of the three kingdoms in ancient times of which, Suzhou was an important part. In 1951, when the Republic of China’s government moved to Taiwan, the school of Law was established which later became the first private school of Taiwan.
