Montpellier University came into being in 2015 with the mergers of University Montpellier 1 and University Montpellier 2. It is one of the premier French universities and is internationally renowned for excellence in research. The first university was set up in Montpellier in the 11th century. Implementing a multidisciplinary approach, the university covers a varied range of disciplines including Science, Technology, Medicine and Environmental Sciences, Educational Sciences, Economics, Management, Law and Political science. It is home to 47,000 students and the campus is spread across an immense area of 5,00,000 sq metres. The world-class campus houses 12 libraries, 2 student centres and has facilitated 118 campus associations. The university also hosts an in-house excellence project which was awarded with the Initiative – Science – Innovation – Territories – Economy (I-SITE) certification in 2017. This is the largest scientific project taken up by MU. Backed by 6,000 scientists and almost 50,000 students, the MUSE has an international judge panel and also receives support from the Occitanie / Pyrénées – Méditerranée Region and Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.
