History, Affiliations and Rankings

The second-largest institution in the Czech Republic, Masaryk University (MU), is a component of the Compostela Group and the Utrecht Network. Masaryk University was founded on January 28, 1919, with the assistance of four faculties: law, medicine, science, and the arts.The institution was renamed Jan Evangelista Purkyn University in 1960 to honour the Czech scientist Jan Evangelista Parkyn. After the Velvet Revolution, it reclaimed its previous name in 1990. More than 171,000 students have earned university degrees since 1922.The founding of Masaryk University was substantially aided by Tomá Garrigue Masaryk, a professor at Charles University who went on to become the first president of Czechoslovakia. It is affiliated with EUA Compostela Group Utrecht Network. Masaryk University is ranked #568 in Best Global Universities.
