History, Affiliations and Rankings

Lewis University was founded in 1932 as the Holy Name Technical School under the direction of the Chicago Archdiocese and Bishop Bernard J. Sheil. Aviation technology courses were chosen as the primary concentrate of instruction during these early days, and this became the foundation of today's well respected College of Aviation, Science, and Technology. Lewis Institution is a comprehensive Catholic university with a synergy of liberal learning, values, and professional training that gives the university its educational identity and purpose.The De La Salle Christian Brothers, a multinational Roman Catholic teaching order, sponsors Lewis as one of 60 colleges across the world. Lewis University is affiliated with Higher Learning Commission, The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU, (NAICU), CIC and in sports accredited with NCCA Division II and GLVC. The US News and World Report ranks it #19 in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities Midwest and The Times Higher Education ranks Lewsi University in the band #351-400 in the World University Rankings 2022.
