Georgia Gwinnett College, also known as Georgia Gwinnett or GGC was established in 2005 in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA. The scholars and practitioners pushed the idea of the independent institute to be established in the county. Gwinnett County purchased 160 acres of land in 1994 and designated it specifically for the development of a college campus. For this effort, , the Georgia Legislature allocated nearly $20 million for the signature building in 1999. When the site construction officially in began in 2000, the Board of Regents approved the status of a public-private venture at Georgia Gwinnett College. In 2004, Georgia Gwinnett College was formed as a new four-year college in Gwinnett County. The new college would inhabit the GUC campus and replace the four institutions then offering courses on the site. After the legislation passed by Georgia Legislative Assembly in 2005, the first president of the college. Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman and the Board voted to name the institution "Georgia Gwinnett College”.
Today, Georgia Gwinnett College has been recognized as Baccalaureate college with many schools including School of Business, School of Education, School of Health Sciences, School of Liberal Arts, School of Science and Technology and School of Transitional Studies. It offers undergraduate programs in over 45 areas of concentration in 18 majors including Psychology, Applied Science, Technology, General Business, Business Administration, Health Science, Social Science, Liberal Arts, Language and many more.
Today, Georgia Gwinnett College has one campus situated in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia. The campus consists of many administrative and academic buildings such as A, B, C, H and W which are used for classes and activities. There are also a Wellness Center (Building F), Student Center (Building E), the Daniel J. Kaufman Library & Learning Center, Administration building (Building D), Athletics Complex (Building G) and several student residence buildings inside the campus. Started with only 12 students, today, there are 12,000 students enrolled in Georgia Gwinnett College with the presence of academic staff of 700 members. The faculty student ratio of the college stands at 1:18. According to the THE Ranking, Georgia Gwinnett College is ranked #12 in Top Public Colleges in USA.
