About the University

History, Affiliations, and Rankings

Edge Hill College was founded on January 24, 1885, by a group of seven Liverpool merchants and benefactors on Durning Road in Edge Hill, Liverpool. It was also the first non-denominational professional development college for women in England, and it was named after the region in which it was located. Edge Hill was one of just two colleges in England at the time that combined teacher training with degree studies. The university was awarded the authority to issue research degrees in August 2008. Universities UK is a member of the organization. According to the Times Higher Education Rankings 2022, it is rated 801-1000th globally.
