History, Affiliations and Rankings
The College was established in 1975. In 1995 the College began a long-term process to address the relational disconnect that existed between the College, its Indigenous students and communities. The purpose of this initiative was to make their educational offerings more relevant in the lives of the Indigenous students, develop strong partnerships to support education within Indigenous communities, and develop ways for those communities to have a greater say in the College's educational initiatives. Coast Mountain College, previously Northwest Community College (NWCC), is an accredited post-secondary institution that serves the rich and diverse communities and learners of BC’s beautiful northwest region. The college has academic affiliations with UArctic, Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and British Columbia Colleges (BCC).
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
There are five campuses in all at the college. Terrace campus is thirty acres of beautifully landscaped grounds located five kilometres from downtown and tucked in the surrounding mountain ranges. The Coast Mountain College campus in Prince Rupert is situated on a beautiful inner bay on the north coast. The Prince Rupert campus's world-renowned Applied Coastal Ecology programme prepares residents for jobs in coastal natural resource management and ecological restoration. The College also has campuses in Smithers, Hazelton, and Haida Gwaii. Across a variety of subjects, the college provides associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, diplomas, and foundation programmes. The College offers courses in the arts, business, health and social services, science, trades, and upgrading.
Accomplishments and Alumni
CMTN develops programmes that are tied to the cultural, social, political, and economic values and reality of the communities in collaboration with the First Nations Council and First Nations communities. They honour and promote the rich traditions of Northwest First Nations, and ensure that these traditions are passed down to future generations via education. They provide some of the most affordable tuition in British Columbia, allowing students to save money during their first two years. The inexpensive cost of living in the region, combined with the breathtaking natural beauty of northwest British Columbia, creates an irresistible package. The college has a large alumni network that spans the globe. Skeena Reece, Jennifer Rice, and Samuel Watts are among the famous names.

Coast Mountain attracts students from all over the world because of its exceptional hospitality and instructors. They host a variety of events, gatherings, and lectures to assist students develop their personalities and find job chances with leading firms throughout the world.
