History, Affiliations and Rankings
Canterbury Christ Church University is a public university that was originally established in 1962 as a comprehensive teacher training institute but was later given the status of a university in 2005. The institution was originally set up as the Canterbury Christ Church College in response to the national shortage of teachers and was later awarded degree-granting powers in 1995. It was in the year 2005 that CCCU obtained university status. In 2009, the Privy Council awarded CCCU the authority to award research degrees. The University has affiliations with the Cathedrals Group, MillionPlus and the Universities of Medway. According to the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings 2022, Canterbury Christ Church University ranks in the bracket #1001-1200.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Canterbury Christ Church University has three campuses in total, out of which its main campus is located in North Holmes in Canterbury. The university is famous for offering undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral programs in a wide range of disciplines. The university provides the students with all the facilities and amenities on the campus itself such as a gymnasium, swimming pool and a bunch of restaurants and bars for students to relax. Along with all these, student clubs and societies are also really active in the university which provides for good student life as well as helps in the growth of an individual. Canterbury Christ Church University received a prestigious silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, exceeding national quality requirements for UK universities. Nearly 90% of the research submitted to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) was assessed as world-leading. Further, the University is among Top 20 large universities in the UK for Graduates in Work. Also, 66% of Canterbury Christ Church University's graduates are in highly skilled employment within 15 months of their graduation, which is 9 percentage points above the national average. CCCU has a list of distinguished alumni members. Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Currently, the university caters to the academic demands of more than 15,000 students, out of which 13,200+ study on the Canterbury campus. Around 5% of the student population comprises international students that come from nearly 80 countries. 72% of the students study on the campus full-time. The university also ensures the development of transferable and industry-based skills to ensure placement opportunities for its outgoing students.
