Established in 1967 and located in North Bay, Ontario, Canadore College was initially known as Canadore College of Applied Arts and Technology. It was a part of Sudbury’s Cambrian College and later, became an independent institution in 1972. One of Canada’s leading Colleges that consistently ranks above the provincial average for the overall quality of learning experience, at Canadore College, students break the boundaries of the classroom, to engage in what is called “Experiential Learning.” Through Internships, entrepreneurial activities, Capstone projects, social enterprise and leadership activities, the students at Canadore are introduced to the professional world, before they even graduate. Canadore College is academically affiliated with Colleges and Institutes Canada (ACCC), Universities Canada (AUCC), the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Canadian University Press (CUP).

Canadore College is spread across a stunning 650-acre wooded escarpment, in the scenic city of North Bay. Across three closely connected campus locations, namely the Aviation Campus, Commerce Court Campus and the College Drive Campus, Canadore College offers a world-class modern infrastructure that strikes the right balance of scenic landscape and technology-advanced facilities. The College has a newly constructed West Parry Sound campus, along with Stanford campuses across multiple locations in Ontario and Toronto. The Stanford Mississauga campus offers several programs like Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma and Local Certificate under 4 Faculties: Trades & Technology, Health, Human Care & Wellness, Business & Management and Language, Access & Preparatory Studies. Students can choose to pursue academic qualifications from a total of 15 Schools that offer a range of programs, including degree programs, apprenticeships, corporate training, dual-credit programs, diplomas or certificate courses.

Canadore College has a significant number of achievements attributed to its name, despite the short span of its history. Recently, the College received a funding investment of $2.4 million from the Ontario government to improvise a modern, safe learning environment  for the students, with instructional equipment that meets industry standards. Further, a Culinary Management student at Canadore won international recognition at the IIHM International Young Chef Olympiad. The student, Mya Hilts, brought home two awards - the Best Mentor for Chef Fintan Flynn, and the Best Knife Skills prize by competing with candidates from 40+ countries. In January, 2022, the Biotechnology Department at Canadore College was accoladed with the Minister of Colleges and Universities’ Award of Excellence – Everyday Heroes, for its contribution to the ongoing pandemic. Canadore College has an alumni network of 40,000+ graduates, that include notable names such as, Susan Hay (Anchor/Producer), Bryce Hallett (Canadian Animator), Sara Mayhew (Writer, Illustrator and Graphic Artist), Lorraine Rekmans (Politician, Member of the Serpent River First Nation), Derek Elliot (Politician) and Jimmy W Troung (Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry Researcher).

Canadore College is a diverse, multicultural and multi-ethnic campus. There are 750+ international student enrollments at Canadore and more than 1000 indigenous students come to study at the campus annually, making approximately 25% of the total student population. Part-Time Job Rules for International Students in Canada

  • You can work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic terms/semesters. To make up these hours, you can perform multiple jobs as long as they all match the requirements of your study permit.

  • You can work full-time if you're on a scheduled break throughout the school year, such as the winter and summer holidays or a fall or spring reading week. 

  • You have the option of working overtime or can also work in 2 part-time jobs that sum up to a bigger number of hours than normal. To work full-time before and after the break, you must be a full-time student. You are unable to work during the break before the start of your first academic session/semester.

  • If you're self-employed, you're also in charge of keeping account of the hours you work off-campus and demonstrating that you're following the terms of your study permit.

Types of Part-Time Jobs in Canada

There are two ways international students can get part-time jobs in Canada. They can either look for on-campus jobs or off-campus jobs.

On-Campus Jobs: On-campus jobs are available inside the university campus and are perfect for students as they can apply in different departments within their proximity. Students can only work on-campus in Canada if their study permit allows it. However, they can work without a work permit if they:

  • Are a holder of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Have enrolled in a program that is at least 6 months long and awards a diploma, certificate or degree by the end of it

  • Have enrolled in a secondary-level post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program

Off-Campus Jobs: Off-campus jobs are relatively easy but not always in proximity. These jobs include office boy, receptionist, waiter/ waitress, call centre maintenance, data entry, etc. In Canada, students can work off-campus only if:

  • They are a student at a designated learning institution (DLI).

  • They are enrolled in a secondary-level vocational training programme or a post-secondary academic, vocational, or professional training programme.

  • They are enrolled in a programme that lasts at least 6 months and leads to a diploma, certificate, or degree.

  • They are a holder of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • They are studying part-time because you are in your last semester and do not need a full course load, or you were a full-time student until your final semester.

To work full-time before and after the break, you must be a full-time student. You are unable to work during the break before the start of your first academic session/semester.

  • If you're self-employed, you're also in charge of keeping account of the hours you work off-campus and demonstrating that you're following the terms of your study permit.

Types of Part-Time Jobs in Canada

There are two ways international students can get part-time jobs in Canada. They can either look for on-campus jobs or off-campus jobs.

On-Campus Jobs: On-campus jobs are available inside the university campus and are perfect for students as they can apply in different departments within their proximity. Students can only work on-campus in Canada if their study permit allows it. However, they can work without a work permit if they:

  • Are a holder of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Have enrolled in a program that is at least 6 months long and awards a diploma, certificate or degree by the end of it

  • Have enrolled in a secondary-level post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program

Off-Campus Jobs: Off-campus jobs are relatively easy but not always in proximity. These jobs include office boy, receptionist, waiter/ waitress, call centre maintenance, data entry, etc. In Canada, students can work off-campus only if:

  • They are a student at a designated learning institution (DLI).

  • They are enrolled in a secondary-level vocational training programme or a post-secondary academic, vocational, or professional training programme.

  • They are enrolled in a programme that lasts at least 6 months and leads to a diploma, certificate, or degree.

  • They are a holder of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • They are studying part-time because you are in your last semester and do not need a full course load, or you were a full-time student until your final semester.

  • They need to pursue a course for a minimum duration of 8 months to be eligible to stay back in Canada.

  • Courses with a duration of fewer than 8 months do not allow a student to stay back and apply for Post Graduation Work Permit.

  • If students pursue a course with a duration of less than 2 years, they are eligible for a post-graduation work permit of equivalent duration as the course.
