The Auburn University was established in 1856, two decades after the founding of Auburn city, the university was initially named Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama and was the first land grant college in the South it was renamed Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1899 and was finally given its present name in 1960, the university offers a diverse academic program and curriculum. The campus is spread across 1841 acres and has a total of 206 academic buildings and 427 buildings in total. The University offers a total of 140 majors divided into School of Pharmacy, College of Agriculture, Design, and Construction, Raymond J. Harbert College of Business, College of Architecture, College of Education, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Human Sciences, School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, College of Liberal Arts, School of Nursing, College of Sciences and Mathematics and College of Veterinary Medicine , apart from academics the students also have 300 clubs and organisations that they choose to be a part of so as to immerse themselves more in the campus life, the university also offers various study abroad programs to their students. The University also offers immense opportunities in the field of sports, their sports teams play under the name of Tigers, some of the athletic teams include- football, swimming, baseball, men and women's basketball, track and field and equestrian. The University also has some note worthy alumni, this includes- Apple CEO Tim Cook, NFL quarterback Cam Newton and Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales among others.
