The full form of GRE is Graduate Record Examination. It is a standardized test used for admissions into graduate and business school programs worldwide. Conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS), the GRE evaluates a candidate’s analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning skills. Types of GRE Exams There are two main types of GRE exams: GRE General Test – Assesses overall verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. GRE Subject Tests – Evaluates knowledge in specific subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Chemistry. Key Features of GRE Computer-Based & Paper-Based Test: Available in both formats, depending on the test center location. Adaptive Testing: The GRE General Test adapts to the test-taker’s performance level in the computer-based version. Global Acceptance: Recognized by thousands of graduate and business schools worldwide. Multiple Attempts: Candidates can take the GRE up to five times in a rolling 12-month period. Score Validity: GRE scores remain valid for five years. GRE Exam Pattern The GRE General Test consists of three main sections: Analytical Writing (60 minutes) Analyze an Issue Task Analyze an Argument Task Verbal Reasoning (60 minutes) Reading Comprehension Text Completion Sentence Equivalence Quantitative Reasoning (70 minutes) Arithmetic Algebra Geometry Data Analysis GRE Scoring System GRE scores are divided into three sections: Verbal Reasoning: 130-170 score range Quantitative Reasoning: 130-170 score range Analytical Writing: 0-6 score range The total GRE score is a combination of the verbal and quantitative scores, with the analytical writing score reported separately. GRE Exam Eligibility There are no specific eligibility criteria for the GRE, and anyone can take the test. However, candidates must check the admission requirements of the institutions they are applying to. GRE Exam Fees GRE exam fees vary by location but typically range between $205 to $230 USD. Additional charges apply for rescheduling, score reporting, and test center changes. Visit the official GRE website (www.ets.org/gre). Create an ETS account. Select your preferred test date and location. Pay the registration fee. Receive confirmation via email.
