Canada has revised its study permit application form for students. Therefore, all foreign students applying to study in Canada must be aware of all the regarding the new study permit.
First of all, a study permit is only applicable to a course that lasts more than 06 months. According to the Canadian government, anyone applying for such a course after the 1st of December 2023 will use the new form.
The new version of the form is IMM1294 and it is mandatory to use this form while applying through the IRCC secure account.
Candidates who are planning to apply soon must save a copy of the new study permit application form to review and fill in all the information carefully.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have strictly declared that they will not accept any form in the old format submitted on or after the 1st of December 2023.
Why are These Changes Introduced?
These changes in the Canadian study permit are introduced to help IRCC scan applications of foreign nationals. They will confirm the acceptance and admission of foreign students directly from the Designated Learning Institutions before granting study permits.
Is Change in Canada Study Permit Form Something to Worry About?
Not at all, in fact, all the other rules and regulations regarding the study permit remain the same. Opportunities for students such as part-time work and other activities allowed on study permit also remain the same.
There will be no difficulty in applying for the study permit if you have read the guidelines carefully. You can contact your university admission counsellor or study abroad experts for help regarding the same.
However, there will be a cap on the number of working hours permitted for international students. This is only to ensure that the students focus on what they primarily migrated to Canada, that is their studies.
Relaxations on Canada Study Permit
There are several relaxations on the Canada study permit. For example, students enrolled in courses that are less than six months in duration do not need a study permit.
Moreover, in certain cases, if you are in Canada on a valid work permit or have applied to renew it and want to pursue a course alongside it, again you will not require a study permit.
However, this is a temporary public policy and is only applicable from 27 June 2023 till 27 June 2026.
