Indian students who apply for a Canadian study visa through Student Direct Stream (SDS) have a substantially higher acceptance rate. The application which fulfils all the requirements are handled within 20 days.
The SDS program fastens the process for students who are applying for study in Canada. Also, 4 of every 5 Indian students apply for a Canadian student visa via the SDS program.
The program offers eligible students from 14 different countries to take part in the process. Countries like Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Pakistan, Costa Rica, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Vietnam
As per the data, early 2023 suggests around 78% of Indian students have applied through the SDS program as of mid-March. Whatsoever, the approval for Indian students not applying through the SDS program has declined every year since 2018.
However, the non-SDS applications to university dropped to 38% and dipped again to 12% during the start of 2023. With time, SDS saw approval rates of 67% and 73% with a rate difference of 29 % and 59% respectively.
SDS Acceptance Rate
Initially, the acceptance rate for SDS applications was 63% last year, compared to 19% for non-SDS candidates.
Early in 2023, the difference widened even more, with Indian students receiving a study permit acceptance rate of 73%, which is seven times greater than the 10% approval rate for non-SDS candidates over the same period.
During the epidemic, the difference in acceptance rates for Indian applicants with SDS and those without SDS program has grown. However, SDS applications received approvals at a rate three times greater than those in the usual stream in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
