Punjab has become a lucrative market for English proficiency testing agencies. This year itself more than 6 lakh students are appearing for the English proficiency exams. For example, IELTS/TOEFL. Consequently, several testing agencies such as IELTS, PTE, LanguageCert, CELPIP, and Skills for English have expanded their market in Punjab. The latest to join the group is TOEFL or the test of English as a Foreign Language organized by the Educational Testing Services (ETS).
Approximately 80%-85% students have preferred to take the IELTS exam. It was followed by PTE with 10% students. The rest of the students preferred other English language tests. Clearing an English Proficiency Test is mandatory to meet the eligibility to study abroad.
New Changes in the TOEFL exams being conducted in Punjab
ETS has announced several changes in the English language test conducted in Punjab. According to Mohammad Kousha, VP Global Growth and Languages at the ETS, students are provided with additional support, and access to meet the growing demand. Additionally, 7 new centres will be opened in the state. The following changes were made by ETS to gain a bigger market share.
- Instead of 3 hours, TOEFL will take 3 hours to complete
- Candidates can check their official scores after the test is completed.
- Moreover, these changes will be applicable from 26th July.
