The EduCanada Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS) for the 2025-2026 academic year are now open for applications. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, this program offers international students the opportunity to engage in short-term study or research exchanges at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The initiative aims to strengthen global academic partnerships and foster cultural exchange between Canada and participating countries.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the SICS program, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of one of the eligible countries/territories:
- Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan
- Europe: Türkiye, Ukraine
- Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia
- Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda
Enrollment: Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in their home country and continue paying tuition fees to that institution during the scholarship period.
Ineligibility: Applicants are not eligible if they hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada, or are currently enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
Scholarship Value and Duration
The scholarship values and durations are as follows:

College/Undergraduate | $10,200 | Four months | Study or research at the college or undergraduate level. A valid student exchange agreement that waives tuition fees is required. |
Graduate (4 months) | $10,200 | Four months | Study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD). A student exchange agreement is not required. |
Graduate (5-6 months) | $12,700 | Five to six months | Study or research at the graduate level. |
In addition to the funds allocated to the recipients by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), Canadian host institutions will receive $500 per scholarship recipient to assist with administrative costs once the scholarship recipient arrives in Canada.

Eligible Expenses
Scholarship funds should be used towards:
- Visa or study/work permit fees
- Airfare for the scholarship recipient only via the most direct and economical route
- Health insurance
- Living expenses, such as accommodation, utilities, and food
- Ground transportation, including a public transportation pass
- Books and supplies required for the recipient’s study or research, excluding computers and other equipment
Application Process
Canadian institutions are responsible for submitting applications on behalf of eligible candidates. Interested students should contact their home institution’s international office to learn about institutional partnerships and collaborations with Canadian institutions. The home institution will then coordinate with the Canadian partner institution to facilitate the application process.
Selection Criteria
Eligible and complete applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Merit of the research or study to be undertaken in Canada
- Benefit to the home institution and peers
- Benefit to the Canadian institution, supervisor, and peers
- Strength of the linkages to be created through the proposed exchange
- Rankings submitted by the Canadian institution
Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously received a scholarship under the Study in Canada Scholarships program.
