Parts of Speech are like basic building blocks in English grammar. They help people to communicate with one another effectively and clearly. They include words that have similar grammatical properties. As mentioned above, they are of eight types which are used in day-to-day sentences and conversations.

What is Noun?
A noun is a word that refers to a person, thing, place or idea. It is often used with an article (the, a, an), but not always. They are the most common parts of speech and used in almost every sentence. Some of the most common examples of nouns include teacher, city, book, dog, love and many more.
Here are some important rules about nouns that you should keep in mind.
- Nouns always start with a capital letter, while common nouns don’t.
- Nouns can be both – singular and plural, abstract and concrete.
- When nouns show possession, they often end with ‘s’.

People: Rahul, Peter, Andrew, George
Ideas: Invention, Evolution, Destruction
Objects/Things: Cycle, Curtains, Paper, Bag, Bedsheet, Cupboard
Animals: Lion, Deer, Zebra, Snake, Parrot, Dog, Cat

What is a Verb?
A verb is used in sentences to describe an action or state of being. They are necessary for creating sentences as they express what the subject in the sentence is doing or is happening to the subject. Verbs often take different forms to express tense. Some examples include: writing, eating, sleeping, thinking, running, walking etc.
Examples:
Maria is currently sleeping with her mother.
Peter ate the last piece of the cake.
Susan is dancing.

What is Adjective?
An adjective is a word which is used to describe or modify a noun or a pronoun. They answer questions about the sentence’s subject such as colour, shape or size. Some examples of adjectives include round, beautiful, happy, sad, red, big, small etc.
Did you know? Articles (a, an, the) are usually classified as adjectives.
Examples:
They are living in a beautiful house.
She is wearing a beautiful dress.
Se writes meaningless letters.
Rahul is an adorable guy.

What is Adverb?
Adverb is utilised to change adjectives, verbs or an adverb. Moreover, they are used to provide more information about how an action is done or how a quality or characteristic is expressed. Some common examples include: very, well, happily, slowly, quickly etc. It is often formed by adding -ly to the adjective.
Examples:
She swims well.
She spoke softly.
He plays the flute beautifully.
He ate the blueberry cake greedily.
