National News

1. NITI Aayog proposes reducing criminal tax offences from 35 to 6, emphasising trust-based governance and decriminalization reforms.
The policy paper outlines a three-tier approach. It suggests decriminalising 12 administrative offences. Liability is retained for 17 offences only with proven intent. Prosecution continues for six major high-value tax evasion cases.

2. India and UK review defence ties during UK Carrier Strike Group visit, focusing on maritime and manufacturing collaboration.
Minister Sanjay Seth met UK Defence Minister Vernon Coaker in Mumbai. They discussed ongoing defence engagements. Focus areas included maritime cooperation, indigenous defence manufacturing, global supply chains, and Indo-Pacific security collaboration.

3. RBI consolidates all regulatory instructions into 238 master circulars, repealing around 9,000 older circulars for clarity.
The Reserve Bank of India has combined instructions across 11 regulated entity categories. It covers 30 thematic areas. About 9,000 previous circulars will be repealed. This simplifies compliance and administration.

4. India and Australia collaborate on naval sensors and advanced technology, expanding defence ties across AI, quantum, and cyber sectors.
DRDO and Australia’s Defence Science & Technology Group are working on underwater threat sensors. Discussions also include AI, quantum technology, cyber security, and information warfare. Collaboration strengthens bilateral defence ties.

Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi spoke during talks with EAM Jaishankar. Afghanistan remains committed to peace and cooperation. It will prevent any misuse of its territory against other countries.

The reforms aim to reduce financial stress of power distribution companies facing ~₹6.9 trillion losses. High industrial tariffs will be rationalised, and railways and manufacturers exempted from cross-subsidy obligations, boosting competitiveness.

4. SBI’s SME Digital Business Loans platform disburses over ₹74,000 crore to 225,000 MSME accounts by August 2025.
Launched in FY24, the programme allows online credit applications up to ₹5 crore. It includes 67,299 Mudra loans totaling ₹3,242 crore, supporting MSME growth and digital financial inclusion.
