List of Indian Universities Tie Up with Foreign Universities 2024

Academic collaborations are not new. Many institutions and colleges reach out to their international peers for research and academic collaborations. These partnerships can be very beneficial for educational institutions to promote international relations and pursue common interests. The new guidelines of the University Grants Commission have also made things easier for Indian and foreign universities to academically collaborate. Let us discuss more of the academic tie-ups in this blog.

Indian University Tie-up Latest Update 

More than 40 foreign universities have shown interest in signing MoUs with Indian Universities. Recently, IIT- Kanpur has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of California for joint research and academic collaboration. University Grants Commission(UGC) is proactively contacting foreign universities and many of them have already collaborated with Indian institutes. 

How does an Academic Tie-Up Work?  

In the year 2022, the University Grants Commission allowed academic collaboration between Indian and foreign educational institutions. The partnership will offer three types of degree programs.

  • Dual Degree: In a dual degree program, a candidate studies a subject, and both the Indian and foreign universities award the degree in that subject.
  • Joint Degree: The curriculum is designed by both the partnering universities and a part of the course is completed overseas with an upper limit being 30 %.
  • Twinning Programme: Half of the course is completed at an Indian University and the other half at a foreign university. The credit distribution will be not more than 30 % from foreign universities.

Many Indian Universities both public and private have contributed to internationalizing Indian higher education.   1. Indian Institute of Science: IISc, Bangalore has signed MoUs and agreements with 120 international institutions. The Indian university has joint ventures with the University of Adelaide, the University of Melbourne, Nagasaki University, etc.
  2. Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur: IIT Kanpur has recently signed an MoU with the University of California, Santa Cruz. The partnership will create new opportunities for students and faculty members in the form of symposiums, exchange programs, joint publications, and so on.
  3. Ashoka University: The university has collaborations with the University of Aizu, the University of British Columbia, the University of Cambridge, Yale University etc.
  4. Shiv Nadar University: This university has many collaborations with foreign universities like Babson College, USA; Mondragon University, Spain; National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan and many others. The partnerships have helped students from both universities to expand their horizons in their subjects.
  5. Chitkara University: The University has more than 200 international collaborations. The students of Chitkara University get the opportunity to get global exposure. There are many programs offered by the institutions, like a semester exchange program, summer programs, etc.
  6. Pondicherry University: The University of Pondicherry has collaborations with more 30 than international universities and institutions. The partnerships offer student exchange programs, research or teaching or conference collaborations and also teaching staff mobilities.
  7. Indian School of Business(ISB): The international collaborations of ISB are countries such as the U.S., France, Pakistan, South Korea, Singapore U.K, Canada, South Africa, Israel, Germany, China, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Chile, Netherlands, Germany, Australia, etc.
  8. BML Munjal University:  The university has collaboration with prestigious universities like Imperial College London, University of Warwick, London School of Economics & Political Science, and UC, Berkeley, etc. 

Advantages of Foreign Tie-ups and MoUs

The collaboration between Indian and foreign universities is not only beneficial for the students but both universities are benefitted from the tie-ups. International academic tie-ups allow students to get global exposure. They can meet and exchange ideas with international students and faculty members. It develops a multicultural mindset and creates a broader outlook on doing things. Students studying in these types of universities have an advantage and can secure placements with foreign employers.
