The Common Law Admission Test or CLAT Exam is the main exam for admission to any of the 22 National Law Universities. The Consortium of NLUs is expected to conduct CLAT 2024-2025 in December 2024. The consortium will also release a notification regarding the registration for the exam.

CLAT UG Eligibility Criteria 2024-25

When a student plans to take the CLAT examination, it is important to understand the CLAT exam eligibility. If you fail to understand the CLAT exam  If you fail to satisfy the CLAT eligibility criteria, you will be disqualified from the recruitment process without any notice. There are three major eligibility factors, stated below.

  • Nationality 
  • Age Limit 
  • Educational Qualification 

CLAT Eligibility – Nationality

  • According to the previous year’s CLAT UG Eligibility Criteria, Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) can apply for the CLAT Exam, if they meet the eligibility requirements.
  • If you are a foreign national, you can also apply for the CLAT exam if you have a valid passport. 

CLAT Eligibility – Age Limit

  • As per the official notification of the CLAT examination, there is no upper age limit to apply for the CLAT Exam. 

CLAT Exam Eligibility – Educational Qualification

Educational Qualification plays a vital role in the CLAT entrance examination eligibility. Let’s explore the educational qualification decided by the Consortium. 

  • You should have completed your 10+2 or any equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. 
  • Students who belong to the General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories, must secure a minimum of 45% marks in the Senior Secondary School Examination/12th Board Examination. 
  • The students who belong to the SC/ST categories must carry a valid score of 40% in the 12th standard. 

CLAT Eligibility – General Criteria

  • If you are appearing in the 12th standard examination in March/April 2024, you can also fill out the CLAT Registration Form. However, they should satisfy the CLAT UG eligibility requirements.
  • You will also need to submit the result of the 12th standard examination at the time of admission. 
  • If you do not submit the result at the time of admission, you might loose the chance of admission at the desired law school.

CLAT PG Eligibility Criteria 2024-25

If you are planning to go for a postgraduate law course, it is very important to familirise yourself with the CLAT eligibility criteria for age, education qualification, and minimum qualifying marks. Below, you can refer to the detailed eligibility criteria for the same.

CLAT Eligibility Nationality 

  • According to the previous year’s official notification, Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and Foreign Nationals can apply for the CLAT PG Exam 2024-25. 
  • The NRI and Foreign nationals can also apply through NRI quota offered by the CLAT participating colleges. 

CLAT Eligibility Age Limit 

  • There is no upper age limit set for the CLAT PG Exam.
  • The minimum age requirement to apply is above 20 years. This age significance is not applicable to postgraduate law courses. 

CLAT Eligibility Educational Qualification 

  • If are appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination, you can also apply for the examination. But you will need to submit your final year mark sheets at the time of admission. 
  • A minimum 50% marks in LLB or any other equivalent degree from a recognized university is a must.
  • If you belong to the SC/ST candidates, you need to have at least 45% in LLB or any other equivalent degree. Additional age relaxation of 5% is also given. 

CLAT Eligibility General Criteria 

  • If you are appealing for your qualifying examination in April/May 2024, you are also eligible to apply for five-year integrated LLB or LLM courses. 

CLAT Eligibility Criteria For NRI Students

NRI aspirants who want to take admission under NRI quota, must clear the clat test eligibility criteria stated below.

  • Admissions for NRI category are carried out on the basis of their merit score. The concerned university then allocates CLAT Seat Allotment under NRI Quota. 
  • In case of any non-availability of foreign national seats, seats will be turned into NRI/NRI-sponsored seats. 
  • The admissions will be on the CLAT ranking in the above-mentioned case. 
  • CLAT office will release the list of eligible candidates for this category. 

List of Documents Required for NRI Admissions

The following list of documents are mandatory to submit for the NRI category, at the time of admission. 

  • Copy of Valid Indian Passport of the Student 
  • Visas acquired in the last 12 months 
  • Certificate from the local embassy stating that the person is an NRI/OCI or PIO Card 

Documents Required for NRI Sponsored Candidates

  • Sponsor’s copy of valid Indian passport. 
  • Visas obtained in the last 12 months by the sponsor 
  • Certificate from the local embassy stating that the sponsor is an NRI/ OCI or PIO card 
  • An affidavit by the sponsor indicating the interest shown in the student’s education affairs and willingness to fund the education of students over the next five years.
