United Nations Education Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

United Nations Education Scientific & Cultural Organization is one of the integral parts of the United Nations Organization. It works to build global peace through international cooperation in Education, Culture and Science. With this, it achieves the objectives of Sustainable Development Goals. It was founded on 16 November 1945. According to the UN’s official website, there are 195 members of UNESCO and 8 Associate members till 2023. 

What is UNESCO and Its History?

The formation of the United Nations Education Scientific & Cultural Organization started in the year 1942. European countries met in the UK for the Conference of Allied Ministers of Education (CAME). They proposed a United Nations Conference for the establishment of an educational and cultural organization was convened in London in November 1945. On 16 November 1945, the UNESCO was established. 

The only clear vision of UNESCO is to achieve lasting peace, economic and political agreements among States are not enough. The full form of UNESCO is the UNESCO preserves 1073 World Heritage sites in 167 countries. It also leads global efforts to reach quality education for all
