What was the Early Life of Raj Reddy?
Dabbala Rajagopal Reddy was born on the 13th of June 1937, in Katur, India. Moreover, he was from a Telugu-speaking family and was the first member to pursue higher education.
- He completed his schooling at ZP High School in Sri Kalahasti.
- Thereafter, he went on to get his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Guindy College of Engineering (which is now Anna University, Chennai) in 1958.
- Interestingly, Reddy was also an ROTC student in India and was learning to fly biplanes and performing aerobatics.
Education of Raj Reddy
Reddy then got an internship in Australia and henceforth earned a Master’s degree in computer science from the University of New South Wales in Sydney by 1960.
- He then joined IBM Australia briefly before going to the United States of America.
- When he realised the growing field of computer science, Reddy enrolled at Stanford University, a hub for AI research.
- He got a Master’s degree in 1964 and went on to complete his Ph.D. in computer science in 1969. He was mentored by the legendary AI pioneer John McCarthy.
