Babita Kumari was born into a family in Haryana that was already involved in the world of sports, especially wrestling. Moreover, her father is Mahavir Singh Phogat who is a Dronacharya Award-winning coach. 

  • Babita Kumari grew up along with her elder sister, Geeta Phogat, who was India’s first female wrestler to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
  • Similar to her other siblings, Babita Kumari was also trained by her father in a rigorous environment. 
  • Furthermore, she proved herself at many national as well as international competitions. Babita Kumari won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships.
