The University of West Alabama was established in 1835 as Livingston Female Academy, a church-supported school for young women. The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and 10 graduate programs (both master’s and doctoral level) across various colleges, schools and divisions: the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Julia Tutwiler College of Education, Division of Online Programs, Division of Technology, Ira D. Pruitt School of Nursing and School of Graduate Studies. UWA is a single-campus university based on a 600-acre rural setting on the western border of Alabama close by Meridian, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. The campus is surrounded by a 54-acre lake and sculptures offering natural beauty and scenic view. Various facilities within the campus include Bibb Graves Hall, Brock Hall, Lucille Foust Hall, Lyon Hall, Pruitt Hall, Julia Tutwiler Library, Guy Hunt Technical Education Complex, The President’s Home, The Bell Conference Center and much more. There is also a fitness centre and various sports activities like American football, golf, volleyball, baseball, basketball, tennis and triathlon etc for students at the university.
