The university was established in 1918 as Kyung Sung Public Agriculture School and was renamed as the University of Seoul in 1997. The university was opened to impart students with a strong emphasis on environmental studies, environmental engineering, liberal education, Taxation Science, transport and landscape engineering. The university was built with a mission other than this, the university also offers vocational courses in various programs. The university is one of the most prestigious institutions in the country and associates itself with the ideologies of liberal education, imparting the ideas of peace-keeping, and maintaining a democratic environment on the campus. The University of Seoul is one of the top 3 universities without medical schools in Korea. The university comprises of more than 200 buildings comprising of 15 colleges, 1 graduate school, and 11 professional schools. The campus is spread across 4 million square meters. The university has also provided students with an app that helps students roam around the immense campus. The University of Seoul is a public university funded and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The university offers a wide range of professional degree programs that are designed according to the necessities of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
