The University of Salento started its operations in the year 1955 in the city of Leece. Later, in 1960, it was granted an autonomous status. It holds accolades for the citizens of Salento who could not receive a higher education facility before the inception of this university. Its courses are spread across various faculties namely the faculty of Economics, Law, Engineering, Education, Political and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, Language and Cultural Heritage. With a current strength of more than 18,000 students, the university offers a plethora of degree courses at UG, PG and doctorate level, both in Italian and English languages. It also follows a world-class curriculum which is designed keeping in mind the industrial needs. Being a national university, it has collaborated with more than 130 Erasmus partners and universities to conduct research in various disciplines. Salento University has also been a part of many events including those against climate change. The university houses 2 museums, Post-graduate schools for Cultural Heritage, various libraries and a sports centre.
