Founded in 1912, the University of Pecs (PTE) is a public university affiliated by the Compostela Group of Universities. It was originally located in Pozsony, Slovakia and then moved to Czechoslovakia during the time of World War I. It was established in Pecs in 1921 and was renamed Janus Pannnonius University. Further, it became the University of Pecs in 2,000 when Janus Pannonius University, the Medical University of Pécs and the Illyés Gyula Teacher Training College of Szekszárd came together to form the present academic institution. The university has a total of 10 faculties and provides a wide range of training and degree courses. It is home to over 25,000 students and 2,000 teachers as well as research scholars. PTE has created its courses with the mission of lifelong learning and the aim of encouraging students to pursue the field of research in their chosen area of study. With advantageous credit system of Hungary, the university attracts a large number of Hungarian students and research scholars enrolling every year to pursue international study programmes. Further, PTE has also partnered with various research and academic institutions around the world to offer study exchange programs to its local as well as foreign students.
