History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of New Haven is a private, nonsectarian institution located in West Haven, Connecticut, USA established in 1920 as the New Haven YMCA Junior College. UNH has been accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education since 1948. The same year it also accepted an invitation to join The New American Colleges and Universities (NAC&U). Also, it has received accreditation from AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The University of New Haven has been ranked #55 in Regional Universities North by US News and Report. As per THE US College Rankings 2022, the University of New Haven ranks #501 - 600.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The university is spread across a total of 122- acres of land consisting of liberal arts education with industry training. It offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral degree courses under 6 colleges and schools: The College of Arts and Science, Tagliatela College of Engineering, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, College of Business, Henry C Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences and the School of Health Sciences. With the development of courses and curriculum, the enrollment of students in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs has increased by 28%. Its campus comprises 48 buildings and 14 on- and off-campus university-sponsored residence accommodations for international students.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

UNH is an active member of the Northeast-Ten Conference (a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association). Athletic teams representing UNH are called the ‘New Haven Chargers’ involved in intramural sports such as volleyball, baseball, lacrosse, softball, cross country, football, field hockey, track and field. Other than this, the university has various 160 clubs and organizations. It has an extensive list of alumni members. Some of the notable names include - Harry Boatswain (football player), James McCaffrey (actor), L. Timothy Ryan (Master Chef).

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

UNH promotes rich student diversity at its campus by encouraging admissions for international students. Almost 15% of its student population consists of foreign students. The university also ensures the development of transferable skills in students to ensure they get placed after completion of their course. The University of New Haven has a total of 6,961 students. The student body is nearly a 50-50 split between males and females, with 29.5 percent of students identifying themselves as a member of an underrepresented group, and 195 with military veteran status. Many reputed companes visit this university for placements, which are Pfizer, Sikorksy, Amazon and Deloitte.
