The University of Leon was established in 1979 and is a public university located in Leon, with its other campus in Ponferrada. Although the foundation of the university can be traced back to the year 1843, it fully gained its status in later years and is a division of the University of Oviedo. The institution is amongst the well-recognised universities in the world and offers an array of graduate and postgraduate courses taught in English as well as Spanish. Tracing its origins from a long and prestigious academic tradition, the University of Leon believes in quality teaching along with ensuring ground-breaking research and innovation. It comprises of a total of 8 faculties, two private schools and six public schools. The university has also formed the School of Languages along with an IT center which is named as Crai-tic and houses the Calendula supercomputer. With an academic staff of 950 members, the University of Leon has the student population of 12,643 out of 8,739 are undergraduates, 488 are postgraduates as well as 1,172 doctoral scholars. The institution is renowned for facilitating impactful research in the areas of Food and Agriculture, Industrial, Computer and Aerospace Engineering and Earth, Energy Sciences and Technology.
