The University of Alicante (UA) is a public university located on the Mediterranean coast, in San Vicente del Raspeig, an area in the city of Alicante, Spain. UA was established in October 1979 based on the structure of the 1968 University Study Centre (CEU) it has a very modern campus. It sits atop an old site of a 1930s aerodrome. Additionally, the university has renovated its pavilions, and added modern buildings through the 1980s and 1990s. There are also many university buildings placed throughout the province of Alicante, with most of them in heritage sites. These are used for seminars, conferences, and other activities. The Science Park of Alicante was built in 2006 and is next to the main campus. It was created as a place for innovation, to encourage relations between universities, research institutions, and companies, to boost the sharing of technology. The university claims to be bilingual and international. Even though almost all classes are taught in Spanish, there are some computer science and business degrees, along with graduate programmes in economics, and some PhDs, which are taught in English. A few other classes are also taught in Valencian. However, most of the cultural activities are taught in English, French and other languages. The University provides Spanish language courses throughout the academic year and even in the summer.
