Renowned as one of the largest science universities in Japan, the Tokyo University of Science is a private research university spread across four main campuses in Tokyo. Having its main campus in Shinjuku, Tokyo University of Science was founded in the year 1881 and was earlier known as the Science University of Tokyo. It was established by 21 graduates of the University of Tokyo as the Tokyo Academy of Physics. Further, the institution gained university status in 1949 and was renamed as the Tokyo University of Science. The university offers an array of bachelor’s degree and master’s degree courses in various fields of science, including, Engineering, Innovation Studies, Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry, amongst others. The university offers 20,000 seats for undergraduate courses and 16,000 for graduate degrees. Further, the campus is spread across 300 acres of land. The university faculty comprises of 300 administrative staff and 600 academic staff members.
