History, Affiliations and Rankings
The Presbyterian School for Indian Girls, a small boarding school in Muskogee, Indian Territory, founded in 1882, served as the foundation for the University of Tulsa. The Presbyterian Church's Board of Home Missions raised the academy's status and chartered it as Henry Kendall College in 1894, at the request of the Synod of Indian Territory. On September 12, 1894, the first classes at the new college began. Since 1929, the University of Tulsa has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), while other university entities (programmes, departments, schools, and so on) are accredited by specialised authorities. According to the QS World Rankings 2022, the university is ranked between #801 - 1000.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Dietler Commons, traditionally known as "The U" is the heart of the University of Tulsa's campus. The university's campus is close to Tulsa's downtown and midtown areas and borders the Kendall-Whittier neighbourhood. The school, specifically Skelly Field, is situated on the historic U.S. Route 66, which runs from Chicago to Los Angeles and is known as America's "Mother Road." The Campus seems to be an endless work of art. The university offers over 67 undergraduate, 47 graduate, 10 doctoral. The university also provides for minor, accelerated, joint and certificate programs in a variety of fields.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge involves TU’s youngest students in advanced research and faculty mentorship. They have been named the greenest university in Oklahoma, powering its renowned Case Tennis Centre through rooftop solar panels. A unique agreement with the City of Tulsa allows TU to manage the world-renowned Gilcrease Museum. Its students and employees volunteered more than 76,000 community service hours in 2019-20 through the True Blue Neighbours program. Moreover, TU has a strong network of alumni all around the world. Some of the notable names are Drew Edmondson, Former Attorney General of Oklahoma, Steve Largent, American Football Player and Rue Mcclanahan, an American Actress.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
The University of Tulsa has a vibrant campus community made up of 196 student organisations. Clubs reflect diverse sport and fitness interests and offer you the chance to gain skills and for some, actively compete for the university. The university has over 3,837 (2,728 undergraduate and 1,109 graduate) students enrolled by themselves. The student community is diverse with 34% of students coming from multicultural backgrounds and 9% of the students enrolled are International.
