The Philadelphia College of Art and the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts were united in 1876 to form the present university, which was officially granted the university status in 1987. This vast university offers, 23 Bachelor's degree programs, 3 undergraduate diploma programs in the School of Music, 14 Master’s degree programs, 2 fifth-year capstone Masters in Teaching programs, 5 graduate diploma/certificate programs and 1 Post-Baccalaureate program. These programs are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and programs are offered in 5 broad categories – undergraduate, graduate, Pre-college 1-12, Professional and continuing education and Ph D in creativity. The sprawling campus has 6 academic buildings and 4 residence halls. Special academic facilities include 11 professional performance venues and 16 galleries. 80% of the students qualify for financial aid and the university disburses $29 million each year in scholarships. The university presently has over 19000 living alumni members.
