Ritsumeikan University (Rits) is one of the largest private universities in the Kyoto region of Japan. It was established in 1869 as the Kyoto Hostel School. It attained the university states in 1900 and was accredited under the Charters Act. The university is spread across three campuses in Kyoto, Kinugasa and Kyoto Prefecture as well. The institution is also renowned for its satellite campus in Biwako Kusatsu. This institution was earlier a school, which was known by its name Kyoto Hostel School. The university faculty comprises of an academic staff of 1300 members. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in an array of specialisations of Arts, Science and Commerce. Ritsumeikan University is also home to more than 32,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students. Moreover, over 400 doctoral scholars are pursuing their research at the university. The main campus of Ritsumeikan University is spread across 500 acres and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including digital classrooms, science laboratories, amongst others.
