Point Park University is a Liberal Arts university which was founded in 1960 and was formerly named as Point Park College. It is Pittsburgh's only downtown university and aims to educate students in a diverse urban environment and prepares graduates to achieve advancing professions and serve their communities. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate, more than 20 master’s and doctoral courses and over 20 online degree programs divided among 5 schools: the Rowland School of Business, Conservatory of Performing Arts, School of Arts & Sciences, School of Communication and School of Education. Its School of Arts & Sciences has 5 departments which include Humanities & Social Sciences, Literary Arts & Social Justice, Criminal Justice & Intelligence Studies, Natural Sciences, Engineering & Technology and Psychology. The campus also includes the Point Park University Department of Public Safety, a police agency which provides patrol and crime prevention services to the university.
The university campus is stretched across 36 acres and is about half a mile from Point State Park and offers riverfront trails, pristine parks, hundreds of shops and restaurants. Baseball is the dominant sport played at the university, however, students can also enjoy sports activities like basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball and softball within the campus.
