Pohang University, also known as POSTECH, is a private institution founded in 1986. It is a private South Korean university dedicated to engineering and science. It was also the first research-oriented university in Korea. The university also ranks at #81 in the QS World Ranking (2022).
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Located in the city of Pohang, the 400-acre, park-like campus is home to the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory and minutes away from POSCO, the fourth-largest steelmaking company in the world. POSTECH has come a long way in its short history to become globally recognized as one of Asia's premier universities. Among the most selective and highly ranked research universities in Korea, POSTECH provides a wide variety to choose from for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Some of them are Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Masters in Industrial Management Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
Accomplishments & Alumni
In 1986, Pohang Institute of Science & Technology was founded (Founding Chairman: Tae-Joon Park, First President: Hogil Kim). In 1998, the university ranked 1st among Asian Science and Technology Universities by Asiaweek Magazine. In 2002, the university was selected as ‘Excellent University for Educational Reform’ for the 7th consecutive year by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development. In 2012, POSTECH ranked 1st among the top 100 universities under 50 years old by The Times Higher Education and was selected as one of the Top 100 Global Innovators in 2012 by Thomson Reuters.
