Universite Paris-Sud was founded on 17th December 1970 to fulfill the need for rigorous research due to the accelerated growth happening in the field of Nuclear Chemistry and Physics. The university claims to be an excellent place for high quality research as proven by the numerous awards and consistently higher positions it has gained in the world rankings. The Paris-Sud University aims to integrate its courses with Paris-Saclay University by January 1st, 2020. According to the Shanghai Ranking in 2009, this university was ranked 5th in Mathematics and 9th in Physics while this year it was ranked 37 worldwide.
Presently, the university has 470 million euros as its annual consolidated budget.
